The emblem of Guiding Principles™ was intentionally designed to reflect the values that shape our work.

At first glance, it resembles a compass—an instrument used by navigators, explorers, and leaders to maintain direction amid uncertainty. In a world marked by complexity, rapid change, and competing pressures, clarity of direction remains one of the most valuable assets a leader can possess.

Look more closely, however, and the symbol reveals deeper meaning.

At its center stands a sword, representing truth, courage, discernment, and the willingness to confront difficult realities honestly. Effective leadership requires more than vision. It requires the discipline to distinguish what is true from what is merely convenient, fashionable, or expedient.

Crossing the sword is a belt, drawn from the Apostle Paul's description of the Armor of God in Ephesians 6:

"Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth ... and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." (Ephesians 6:14,17)

In the ancient world, a soldier's belt secured and held together the equipment upon which he depended. In the same way, enduring principles provide the framework that enables leaders and institutions to act with consistency, integrity, and confidence.

The circular form suggests both a compass and a shield. It speaks of direction, stewardship, resilience, and responsibility. Together, these elements express a conviction that leadership is not merely about achieving outcomes, but about remaining anchored to truth while navigating uncertainty.

The circular form suggests both a compass and a shield. It speaks of direction, stewardship, resilience, and responsibility. Together, these elements express a conviction that leadership is not merely about achieving outcomes, but about remaining anchored to truth while navigating uncertainty.

The name "Watchman's Belt" reflects another enduring biblical image—that of the watchman who stands upon the wall, remaining alert to danger, discerning the times, and helping others prepare wisely for what lies ahead.

For us, the symbol serves as a reminder that leadership begins not with power, position, or influence, but with truth. It is truth that provides direction. Truth that provides stability. And truth that enables leaders to navigate changing circumstances without losing sight of what matters most.

In a world that often rewards reaction, we believe principled leadership begins with orientation—and orientation begins with truth.
